Bahrain and UK Strengthen Transport Cooperation with New Strategic MoU

Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, met with Lord Peter Hendy in London to advance cooperation on rail development, modern transport systems and long-term infrastructure planning between the two countries.

During the meeting, both sides discussed opportunities for collaboration in smart mobility, sustainable transport and the enhancement of Bahrain’s public transport network. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla highlighted the deep, longstanding partnership between Bahrain and the United Kingdom, particularly in advanced transport and infrastructure development, and emphasised the value of expanding technical cooperation through shared expertise and best practices.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Department for Business and Trade and the UK Department for Transport. On the UK side, the MoU was signed by Chris McDonald and the Minister of State for Rail.

The MoU establishes a framework for enhancing public transport efficiency, strengthening maritime and aviation cooperation, and advancing sustainable and smart transport technologies. It also includes joint capacity-building initiatives, expert workshops, and knowledge-exchange programmes aimed at developing national expertise in planning and delivering next-generation transport projects.
