Angola Cables Launches Third Cloud Node in Angola, Expands Clouds2Africa Platform

Angola Cables has launched its third domestic cloud node as part of its expanding Clouds2Africa platform, alongside a new programme offering free cloud services to startups and local entrepreneurs.

The new Cloud Node Luanda-02, unveiled last Friday, joins existing Clouds2Africa nodes in Luanda and Sangano. The platform also operates nodes across South Africa, Namibia, Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania—strengthening Angola Cables’ pan-African cloud footprint.

According to reports from PTI, Luanda-02 is central to the company’s strategy to enhance national data sovereignty, offering a competitive alternative to global hyperscalers like Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services. The goal: ensure that “Angolan data, produced in Angola, remain in the country,” said Innovation Director Júlio Chilela.

CEO Ângelo Gama explained that Clouds2Africa provides advantages such as cost transparency, payment in kwanzas, and locally hosted virtual machines and storage—reducing reliance on international payments and keeping critical backups within Angola.

As part of the launch, Angola Cables introduced Acelera Clouds, a voucher programme that offers free cloud resources to startups and entrepreneurs for a limited period. The initiative aims to lower barriers to digital infrastructure, enabling early-stage businesses to scale and supporting Angola’s broader digital transformation goals.
