VEON has announced that Banglalink, its digital operator in Bangladesh, has received approval from Bangladesh Bank to operate as a payment service provider, marking a significant step in its expansion into digital financial services. The approval allows Banglalink to offer regulated money transfer and payment solutions, supporting greater access to formal financial services in a country where a large portion of the population remains unbanked.
Following the approval, Banglalink is moving ahead with operational and technical preparations in coordination with Bangladesh Bank and partner institutions. The services will be integrated into the mobile experience, aiming to reduce barriers to access and simplify everyday financial transactions for users.
At launch, Banglalink’s payment services will include instant person-to-person transfers, remittance services, utility and government bill payments, merchant and e-commerce transactions, as well as salary and disbursement services. Future phases will expand into use cases such as micro-savings and insurance premium payments, supported by a robust security framework to ensure reliable and secure transactions.
The initiative builds on VEON’s broader digital financial services footprint across its operating markets, where it reported 42.1 million monthly active users as of September 30, 2025, reflecting strong year-on-year growth. The Bangladesh rollout extends this experience into one of South Asia’s fastest-growing digital economies.
VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu described digital financial services as a core pillar of the group’s DO1440 strategy, emphasizing their role in empowering customers and supporting national digital growth. Banglalink CEO Johan Buse highlighted the company’s nationwide reach and commitment to building a secure and inclusive digital payment ecosystem that supports everyday life and community empowerment in Bangladesh.
