Nepal Telecom hosts 18th AGM, Major projects coming!

Nepal Telecom (NTC) has successfully convened its 18th Annual General Meeting at Rastriya Sabha Griha in Kathmandu, with shareholders representing over 91 percent of the company’s equity in attendance. The AGM approved the Board of Directors’ annual report, audited financial statements, and a dividend of NPR 30 per share for FY 2081/82.

Chairperson Radhika Aryal, who also serves as Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, highlighted that the company continues to operate in an increasingly competitive environment. She emphasized that NTC’s priority remains service expansion rather than short-term revenue maximization, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

Despite sector challenges, Nepal Telecom reported revenue of NPR 38.19 billion and profits of NPR 6 billion during the fiscal year. The company contributed NPR 18.46 billion to the national treasury in taxes and fees, reinforcing its role as a key pillar of the national economy.

Aryal said the company may initiate large-scale infrastructure projects in the coming period, potentially requiring additional capital. She indicated that bonus shares could be issued if necessary to support future growth.

On network development, NTC confirmed that 4G coverage now reaches 749 local levels across 77 districts. FTTH broadband services have expanded nationwide, and by the end of the review period the company operated 4,542 2G BTS, 2,994 3G BTS, and 4,437 4G BTS. Optical fiber expansion now spans over 8,800 kilometers, including major mid-hill corridors.

Addressing public demand for next-generation services, Aryal confirmed that Nepal Telecom is preparing to resume 5G services, starting from Kathmandu and other major cities. The company is also continuing the expansion of VoLTE and fiber services to improve service quality.

With data consumption rising, NTC plans to strengthen policies, improve network performance, and grow its share in data services. The company will also pursue partnerships with national and international organizations to expand value-added and content-based offerings.

The AGM concluded with a commitment from leadership to gradually implement shareholder recommendations and align the company’s roadmap with Nepal’s digital future.
