Egypt Positions as Regional Hub for ICT Innovation in Talks with UK Officials

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, met with British Ambassador to Egypt Mark Bryson-Richardson to advance ICT cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom, with a focus on attracting British companies, expanding offshoring partnerships, and strengthening collaboration in digital transformation and skills development.

The discussions centered on positioning Egypt as a regional hub and gateway to African markets, while deepening cooperation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data centers, cybersecurity, fintech, and digital infrastructure. Both sides emphasized fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup growth across the two countries.

Dr. Talaat highlighted the breadth of existing Egypt–UK ICT collaboration and proposed expanding ties into academia through partnerships between the Egypt University of Informatics and leading British universities. He also outlined initiatives to enhance digital capacity-building programs and underscored Egypt’s competitive advantages, particularly its highly qualified ICT talent pool.

The British Ambassador reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening ICT cooperation, encouraging investment, and supporting Egypt’s digital transformation agenda. Both parties discussed organizing a joint event to showcase Egypt’s ICT competitiveness in digital transformation and offshoring, with participation from leading Egyptian and British companies.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including ITIDA CEO Ahmed Elzaher, Assistant ICT Minister Sherine El-Guindy, ICT Ministry Advisor Khaled Taha, and representatives from the British Embassy in Cairo.
