Pakistan steps onto the global AI field as Indus AI Week 2026 approaches

Pakistan is preparing to host Indus AI Week 2026 from February 9 to 15, positioning the event as a national milestone aimed at accelerating the country’s role in the global artificial intelligence landscape and shifting focus from policy discussions to execution and innovation.

The week will open in Islamabad with the Indus AI Summit, a closed-door gathering focused on practical outcomes, including sovereign AI development, national computing infrastructure, and approaches to AI governance. The summit is expected to conclude with the Islamabad AI Declaration, outlining policy direction and collaborative intent around AI development and regulation.

Beyond policy discussions, Indus AI Week will expand into nationwide activities designed to engage students, developers, startups, and innovators. Programmes such as techathons, robotics showcases, gaming arenas, startup expos, and training initiatives aim to encourage hands-on participation and accelerate the transition from experimentation to product development.

The initiative also highlights Pakistan’s intention to strengthen its domestic technology ecosystem by promoting local innovation and intellectual property development, moving beyond its traditional role as a talent and outsourcing destination. Events hosted across universities and institutions nationwide are expected to broaden participation and build momentum around AI adoption.

Government stakeholders have framed artificial intelligence as a strategic priority comparable to core national infrastructure, reflecting ambitions to position Pakistan as an active contributor in shaping global AI development, governance frameworks, and digital innovation.
