Pakistan mobile users gain toll-free access as PTA expands free calling service

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a new facility allowing mobile users across the country to make free calls to toll-free numbers starting with 0800, extending a service that was previously limited to fixed-line customers.

The regulator said the decision followed a comprehensive review aimed at improving consumer protection and ensuring equitable access to telecom services. After consultations with key stakeholders including PTCL, the National Telecommunication Corporation, local loop operators, and mobile network providers, it was agreed that calls to local loop toll-free numbers would be free for all users regardless of device type.

PTA stated that the initiative is intended to enhance accessibility to essential services, support consumer rights, and create a more inclusive and user-friendly telecommunications environment nationwide.

Alongside the announcement, the authority also warned the public against using illegal foreign SIM cards, noting that unauthorized SIM usage poses security risks and may expose users to legal consequences. Citizens were urged to use only verified and locally compliant telecom services.
