Identy.io, a global biometric authentication technology company focused on secure, mobile-first identity verification, has announced plans to expand its operations across Africa, targeting markets where national digital identity initiatives are accelerating.
The expansion comes as several African governments advance digital identity programs aimed at improving public service delivery, strengthening financial inclusion, and building foundational digital public infrastructure. Identy.io has identified Kenya and Nigeria as initial focus markets, citing ongoing investments in identity systems integrated with public services, financial access, and mobile connectivity.
According to the company, demand for scalable identity solutions is growing as governments seek alternatives to traditional infrastructure-heavy biometric systems. Identy.io’s approach emphasizes software-driven identity verification, reducing reliance on specialised biometric hardware by enabling biometric capture and verification through standard smartphones.
Antony Vendhan, Co-founder of Identy.io, said the company’s technology supports biometric data capture, identity document processing, issuance of digital identities for individuals without formal identification, and large-scale biometric verification and deduplication. The model is designed to improve accessibility while lowering deployment costs for large-scale national identity programs.
As part of its expansion strategy, Identy.io’s Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) has completed compliance requirements under the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP) and is now listed on the MOSIP Marketplace. MOSIP enables governments to design and deploy digital identity systems tailored to national requirements while maintaining interoperability and flexibility.
The company plans to expand into additional African markets following its initial deployments, positioning its technology to support the continent’s ongoing transition toward digital identity ecosystems and inclusive digital economies.
