Al Rustaq Hospital in Oman’s South Al Batinah Governorate carried out more than 7,000 surgical procedures during 2025, reflecting growing demand for healthcare services and continued expansion of medical capabilities at the facility. Over the same period, the hospital recorded more than 180,000 patients across outpatient clinics and emergency departments, while inpatient admissions exceeded 23,000 cases. Laboratory and diagnostic services also saw significant activity, with approximately half a million blood tests and 45,000 X-ray examinations conducted during the year.
Hospital officials confirmed that the institution received international accreditation from the World Health Organization (WHO) in healthcare and patient safety, in addition to being recognized as a mother-and-child friendly hospital. These certifications support the hospital’s efforts to align its services with international healthcare standards and strengthen patient care systems.
Al Rustaq Hospital provides secondary healthcare services across a wide range of medical specialties, including internal medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, anaesthesia, and intensive care. The hospital has also expanded its capabilities by introducing specialized subspecialties such as adult and neonatal intensive care, endoscopic surgery, high-risk pregnancy clinics, infectious disease management, advanced radiology services, and blood bank facilities.
In recent developments, tertiary-level subspecialties have been added, including paediatric surgery, gastroenterology and hepatology for adults and children, endocrinology, chest diseases, infectious diseases, and paediatric haematology and neurology. The hospital also benefits from visiting consultants who support specialized units, helping reduce external referrals while improving service quality.
Rising demand for healthcare services remains a key operational challenge, particularly given capacity constraints. Hospital management is addressing this through improvements in operational efficiency, infrastructure modernization, and expansion plans aimed at increasing service capacity. The recent opening of Al Suwaiq Referral Hospital is also expected to help distribute patient load across facilities in the region.
