Saudi Arabia has joined the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), marking a significant step in its ambition to influence global AI governance and ethical technology development.
GPAI, a multilateral initiative launched by the G7 and hosted by the OECD, brings together more than 40 countries to advance responsible, human-centric artificial intelligence. With its accession, Saudi Arabia will collaborate with member states to strengthen international AI standards, governance frameworks, and cross-border cooperation.
The Kingdom’s participation is led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and supported by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The move aligns closely with Vision 2030, which prioritises the localisation of advanced technologies and aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to GDP.
Through GPAI membership, Saudi Arabia will contribute to shaping global AI policies while promoting ethical AI deployment and inclusive innovation. The step also reinforces the Kingdom’s growing role in digital diplomacy and international technology cooperation.
Officials expect the membership to enhance Saudi Arabia’s attractiveness to high-quality international investment, supported by its expanding regulatory framework and rapidly developing AI and data ecosystem.
By joining GPAI, Saudi Arabia positions itself not only as a technology adopter, but as an active architect of the global AI landscape — shaping standards, governance, and the future direction of artificial intelligence worldwide.
