Pakistan’s telecom regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, has advised citizens to avoid sharing unverified or inflammatory content online amid heightened regional security concerns. Legal action may be taken against those spreading misinformation, especially as Pakistan conducts strikes in Afghanistan and Iran faces US-Israeli attacks.
The PTA emphasized relying on official sources and refraining from rumors or “fake news” that could harm national interest, public order, or state institutions. Citizens are urged to exercise caution, maturity, and a sense of national responsibility to maintain stability and public confidence. The advisory follows growing enforcement of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), which has faced criticism for restricting digital expression.
