ITU Raises $82 Billion to Bridge Digital Divide in Nigeria and Globally

The International Telecommunication Union announced it has raised over $82 billion through its Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition to expand internet connectivity in Nigeria and other regions. Launched in 2021, P2C mobilizes governments, private sector, and civil society to fund projects that promote digital inclusion, especially in remote communities.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin revealed the milestone at Mobile World Congress 2026, noting that 2.2 billion people remain offline. The initiative is on track to reach its $100 billion target by the end of 2026. Key pledges include Mobily committing $1.715 billion for data centers, submarine cables, and 5G networks, and Ooredoo Group pledging $500 million to expand high-capacity fibre infrastructure across the MENA region. These investments aim to enhance global connectivity, digital inclusion, and economic growth.
