Next-Gen InfraCo (NGIC) has commenced full commercial operations of its shared 4G and 5G wholesale platform in Ghana, marking a significant shift in the country’s telecommunications landscape. Following formal validation from the National Communications Authority, the network is now live in strategic locations including Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale. This launch follows a series of delays to the original 2025 timeline and aims to provide a unified infrastructure that retail mobile operators can utilize to deliver high-speed services without the need to build individual, redundant hardware networks.
The wholesale model is designed to accelerate national coverage, with a specific government mandate to reach 70% 5G population density by March 2027. By separating infrastructure management from retail service delivery, the initiative allows for more efficient capital deployment and coordinated national investment. Although the regulator recently rescinded the company’s exclusive license due to previous scheduling setbacks—technically allowing other telcos to build independent 5G networks—the shared architecture remains the primary vehicle for bridging the digital divide and supporting new enterprise service models across the Republic.
