PTA hosts mock auction ahead of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum sale

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has conducted a mock spectrum auction as part of preparations for the country’s upcoming 5G spectrum auction, aimed at testing systems and familiarising stakeholders with the auction process.

The simulation exercise was organised to ensure transparency and operational readiness before the formal spectrum sale. It allowed participating telecom operators and relevant stakeholders to understand the auction framework, bidding procedures and technical requirements involved in the process.

The mock auction replicates the structure of the actual spectrum sale, enabling regulators to verify the efficiency of the electronic bidding system and ensure that all procedures function smoothly during the official auction.

Pakistan is preparing to allocate new spectrum bands to accelerate the rollout of 5G services, which are expected to significantly enhance mobile broadband capacity, support digital transformation initiatives and enable emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, smart cities and advanced enterprise applications.

The upcoming spectrum auction is considered a key milestone in Pakistan’s telecom sector development, paving the way for operators to deploy next-generation mobile networks and expand high-speed connectivity across the country.

By conducting the mock auction, the PTA aims to minimise technical or procedural challenges during the actual bidding process while strengthening confidence among telecom operators participating in the auction.
