Saudi digital enabler stc Group has launched the second phase of its ‘New Calling’ initiative, introducing a commercial pilot for real-time Arabic–English translation during live voice calls. Currently available to selected customers in Riyadh, the service utilizes advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) integrated directly into the network. This allows callers to speak naturally in their native language while receiving an immediate, context-aware translation of the other party’s speech, effectively bridging language barriers for both residents and visitors.
The technology relies on network-level low-latency processing and secure voice intelligence to ensure translations are clear and natural without compromising privacy or information security. This milestone builds upon the initiative’s first phase launched in late 2024, which focused on speech-to-text tools for the hearing impaired. Following the current pilot and user feedback collection, stc plans to expand the service gradually over the coming months, with intentions to introduce additional languages and a nationwide rollout.
