American University of Bahrain partners with ICANN to advance internet governance and digital education

The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) has partnered with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to strengthen education and awareness around internet governance and digital infrastructure.

The collaboration will focus on developing academic programmes, training initiatives, and knowledge-sharing activities related to domain name systems (DNS), internet policy, and global digital governance frameworks. By integrating ICANN’s expertise into its curriculum, AUBH aims to equip students with a deeper understanding of how the internet operates at a structural level.

The partnership reflects growing recognition of the importance of internet governance as digital ecosystems expand. Topics such as domain management, cybersecurity, and policy regulation are becoming increasingly relevant for both technical and non-technical professionals.

Bahrain has been actively investing in digital skills development and positioning itself as a knowledge-based economy. Collaborations with global organisations like ICANN support these efforts by bridging the gap between academia and industry.

The initiative also highlights the role of educational institutions in preparing talent for emerging areas of digital infrastructure and policy.

Editor’s Note:
Internet governance is becoming a critical component of digital literacy in advanced economies. Partnerships like this signal a shift toward embedding infrastructure-level understanding into education systems.
