Zain Jordan and Ericsson extend BSS modernisation to postpaid services

Zain Jordan and Ericsson have started the next phase of their business support systems modernisation programme, extending the project to the operator’s postpaid business as it prepares its IT infrastructure for 5G services and more flexible digital monetisation.

The expanded scope is intended to support new revenue opportunities across both prepaid and postpaid segments while moving Zain Jordan toward a more cloud-native, data-driven BSS architecture.

The programme includes upgrades to Ericsson’s billing platform, deployment of the Ericsson Telco DataOps Platform, and the introduction of catalog and order management capabilities for postpaid services.

Postpaid services added to BSS transformation

The latest phase brings Zain Jordan’s postpaid business into the modernisation programme, expanding a transformation that is designed to cover the operator’s broader commercial and IT environment.

By extending the project across both prepaid and postpaid segments, Zain is seeking to create a more consistent architecture for launching, managing and monetising services.

That becomes increasingly important as 5G opens the door to more differentiated service models, including personalised offers and more dynamic product configurations.

Ericsson billing platform moves onto Red Hat OpenShift

A central part of the programme is the upgrade of Ericsson’s billing solution on Red Hat OpenShift within Zain Jordan’s private cloud.

The move is intended to improve speed, scalability and cost efficiency while giving the operator a more agile foundation for 5G monetisation.

Running billing workloads in a cloud-native environment can also make it easier to scale capacity, update services and integrate new commercial models without relying on more rigid legacy infrastructure.

For Zain Jordan, this is part of a wider shift toward a cloud-native IT stack rather than a standalone billing upgrade.

Telco DataOps Platform to support real-time intelligence

Zain Jordan will also deploy Ericsson’s Telco DataOps Platform to support real-time data streaming, proactive customer experience management, network optimisation and data-driven decision-making.

The platform is also intended to establish a foundation for more advanced automation and AI-driven autonomous network capabilities.

This is significant because BSS modernisation is increasingly converging with data and network intelligence. Rather than operating billing, customer systems and network analytics as isolated functions, operators are moving toward architectures where real-time data can influence commercial and operational decisions.

Catalog-driven model aims to speed up offer launches

The project will introduce catalog and order management capabilities for postpaid products.

Zain Jordan said this will support a catalog-driven architecture model, enabling the operator to launch new offers more quickly.

A centralised product catalog can simplify the way services are created, configured and distributed across different channels, reducing the amount of custom development required for individual offers.

That can become particularly valuable in a 5G environment where operators may need to create more targeted propositions across consumer and enterprise segments.

Wessam Abu Hashhash, Zain Jordan’s chief technology and digital innovation officer, said the cloud-native and data-driven architecture would strengthen the operator’s ability to deliver more agile and personalised digital services.

Ahsan Quaderi, Ericsson Jordan’s country manager and sales head, described the expansion as an important milestone in Zain Jordan’s cloud-native evolution across its IT stack.

Why this matters

The project shows that preparing for 5G is not limited to radio networks, spectrum or core infrastructure.

Operators also need billing, product management, order management and data platforms capable of supporting more flexible services and commercial models.

By expanding BSS modernisation into postpaid and combining it with cloud-native billing, real-time data operations and catalog-driven service management, Zain Jordan is building more of the commercial infrastructure required to turn 5G capabilities into revenue-generating services.
