Khalifa University’s Research & Innovation Centre for Graphene and 2D Materials (RIC2D), through its commercial branch Intratomics, has formed a partnership with LOLC Advanced Technologies Australia to develop and produce graphene-related products. This collaboration was formalized in an agreement signed by Homaid Abdulla Al Shimmari, Vice-Chairman of Khalifa University’s Board of Trustees, and Manju Gunawardana, CEO of Research and Innovation at LOLC Group. The signing ceremony was also attended by Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, and Ishara Nanayakkara, Chairman of LOLC.
This phase of the partnership, which builds on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed in August 2023, will focus on the joint production of graphene in commercial quantities and the development of advanced materials. Intratomics and LOLC Advanced Technologies Australia will play pivotal roles in advancing this agreement.
A key component of the partnership is the establishment of a state-of-the-art production facility in Abu Dhabi, the first of its kind in the Middle East. This smart, cost-effective facility is poised to meet the growing regional and global demand for high-quality graphene-related materials.
The partnership aims to produce and develop advanced materials and additives, such as Graphene Oxide, Reduced Graphene Oxide, Graphene, and Graphite derivatives, for precision applications. This initiative will contribute to the field of sustainable materials, further supporting the UAE’s efforts to diversify its economy.
Homaid Abdulla Al Shimmari highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Intratomics’s partnership with LOLC Advanced Technologies reflects Khalifa University’s unwavering commitment to innovation and the development of cutting-edge materials. By harnessing our combined expertise, this joint venture will advance the production of advanced materials using graphene, thereby supporting the UAE’s transition to a more sustainable and diversified economy.”
Manju Gunawardana emphasized the importance of the partnership, noting, “Collaborating with Intratomics Abu Dhabi is a key milestone in LOLC Advanced Technologies Australia’s mission to bring graphene and 2D nanomaterials into the commercial spotlight. While much of the graphene research has been confined to academia, this partnership aims to translate that research into commercial-scale industrial applications.”
Through this partnership, RIC2D and LOLC Advanced Technologies are committed to advancing the development of sustainable materials, contributing to the diversification of the UAE’s economy. LOLC Advanced Technologies is already involved in the manufacturing and distribution of high-quality graphene products for precision applications. The LOLC Group, the parent company of LOLC Advanced Technologies, operates in 22 countries, with several entities focused on digital technology and innovation, including those incorporated in the UAE.
