Nepal Telecom (NTC) has entered into an agreement with Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) to provide Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) internet services to various ward offices within the local government. The agreement was signed by Reena Dongol, Director at NTC Provincial Directorate, Bagmati Province, and Rekha Das Shrestha, Chief Administrative Officer at Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
Under this agreement, NTC will deliver connectivity services in Lalitpur Metropolitan City through its FTTH Optical Fiber Network, adhering to the established Service Level Agreement (SLA). LMC will cover the costs associated with the necessary equipment, installation, operation, and maintenance, while being exempt from payment for the FTTH Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) device.
With this partnership, NTC will provide high-speed fiber internet to 58 locations within the local government. This includes setting up FTTH fiber internet in 29 ward offices, 21 ward health centers, and 8 divisions, departments, centers, and projects, totaling 58 distinct sites.
This collaboration represents NTC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing connectivity for government bodies. Recently, the company signed an agreement to supply internet services to high and district courts and has also partnered with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) for a mid-hill fiber project. NTC continues to expand its services beyond mere commercial interests.
The initiative falls under the Government-to-Government (G2G) framework, wherein NTC will provide an optical fiber network to various government entities using its FTTH infrastructure. Additionally, the company will offer the necessary technical support as needed.
High-speed internet is crucial for the efficient operation of government offices, and the Nepalese government has prioritized such connectivity to facilitate the nation’s digital revolution. The FTTH fiber internet, marketed as NT Fiber, utilizes fiber optics to deliver reliable broadband services to ward offices in Lalitpur. This next-generation broadband capability is designed to meet contemporary internet demands.
With high-quality internet access from NTC, ward offices, health centers, divisions, and branches in Lalitpur Metropolitan City will be better equipped to provide effective services. This advancement will significantly contribute to the digital transformation of government services.
While challenges remain in the government’s drive for a digital Nepal, companies like NTC are stepping up to help achieve broader goals for the country.
