Jazz Phases Out 3G Services, Transitioning to 4G-Only Network in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Jazz has officially discontinued its 3G services, reallocating its spectrum resources to strengthen its 4G network as part of its ambitious “4G for All” strategy, announced on Monday. This move makes Jazz the first telecom operator in Pakistan to fully transition to a 4G-only mobile broadband network.

Previously, Jazz had committed to completing the 3G phase-out by November 2024, aligning the transition with its broader ServiceCo transformation aimed at boosting digital connectivity across Pakistan. With its 4G customer base now at 50 million, Jazz continues to focus on expanding access to high-speed internet, contributing to Pakistan’s digital economy.

“Repurposing our spectrum exclusively for 4G is a significant milestone in our ServiceCo transformation, solidifying Jazz’s role in driving digital innovation,” said Khalid Shehzad, Jazz’s Chief Technology Officer. He emphasized that the year-long transition will improve service quality and enable customer-focused solutions that uplift communities and improve livelihoods.

Kazim Mujtaba, President of the Consumer Division at Jazz, highlighted that the shift to a 4G-only network will vastly enhance digital accessibility for millions. “Our priority is to deliver solutions that adapt to the evolving needs of consumers, ensuring that no one is left behind in Pakistan’s digital transformation,” he added.

To facilitate a smooth transition, Jazz is offering free SIM upgrades and enhanced customer support to assist users in switching to 4G-compatible devices. The company’s adherence to PTA guidelines in phasing out 3G services sets a regulatory benchmark, optimizing spectrum usage and paving the way for future advancements in digital connectivity.
