PTA and FIA Conduct Successful Raid on Illegal Mobile Boosters, Launch Cybersecurity Awareness Week

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle Karachi, recently carried out a successful raid against a retailer selling illegal mobile boosters and amplifiers. According to a press release from the PTA, 25 mobile booster sets and one laptop were confiscated during the raid.

The PTA stated that an inquiry has been initiated by the FIA to investigate the matter further. The authority emphasized that illegal amplifiers interfere with the licensed spectrum of PTA’s licensees, which can negatively affect the Quality of Service (QoS) provided by Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs). The PTA also advised consumers to use only PTA Type-approved equipment.

In a separate development, the PTA launched Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2024 from December 9 to 15. This week-long initiative aims to raise awareness of digital safety at both the individual and consumer levels. The campaign focuses on online security, data privacy, and the legal aspects of cybercrimes under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

The PTA has invited citizens, businesses, and educational institutions to participate in the awareness campaign by following their social media handles and engaging with their content. Additionally, the PTA is hosting expert discussions to provide essential knowledge and equip individuals and organizations with the tools needed to protect themselves from emerging cyber threats.
