Tayeb Zitouni, Algeria’s Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, has announced significant advancements in the digital transformation of the country’s internal trade sector. This initiative is a key component of the broader strategic plan aimed at modernizing the sector and aligning with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision for a fully digitalized economy. Zitouni shared these developments during the launch of the new intranet network for the National Property Directorate, marking 2024 as a crucial year for Algeria’s digital governance efforts.
The digital transformation strategy seeks to streamline administrative processes, enhance service delivery, and strengthen the infrastructure necessary for efficient governance. By integrating state-of-the-art technological solutions, the plan aims to boost operational efficiency within internal trade services while ensuring secure and high-performance data exchange across the country.
A major aspect of the strategy involves the creation of 36 advanced digital platforms to improve market oversight, focusing particularly on the production, distribution, and consumption of essential agricultural and food products. These platforms will allow authorities to monitor the entire supply chain, from producers and importers to wholesalers and retailers, ensuring transparency in the movement of goods. Additionally, the platforms will track real-time market prices and identify trends, enabling informed decision-making at all levels of the economy.
Zitouni emphasized that these digital tools will not only enhance market monitoring but also strengthen the national economic regulation system, helping to combat fraud and ensure product quality. This initiative is part of Algeria’s broader efforts to improve economic oversight, protect consumers, and streamline public services. The move towards digital platforms aligns with the country’s goals of fostering economic growth, promoting local development, and ensuring market stability.
The minister also highlighted the successful completion of technical preparations for the second phase of Algeria’s national economic census. This phase will refine the country’s production indicators and guide investment decisions, ultimately stimulating commercial activity and contributing to Algeria’s overall economic development.
Zitouni further discussed the ongoing collaboration with Algeria’s national telecom provider, “Algérie Télécom,” to establish a secure and efficient data exchange infrastructure. The aim is to create an integrated system that links various governmental agencies, providing real-time data for better decision-making and facilitating the implementation of trade and economic policies.
As part of the digitalization strategy, the government is also focusing on modernizing regional public market networks and implementing digital tools to benefit market operators, traders, and consumers. These efforts aim to ensure equitable distribution of goods and services across Algeria, addressing both consumer needs and market imbalances.
Zitouni’s forward-looking vision for the future of Algeria’s internal trade sector, driven by a blend of technology and governance, is set to be a key driver of the country’s economic transformation in the coming years.
