Muscat: Oman Data Park (ODP), the Sultanate’s premier IT-managed service provider renowned for its excellence in data centre, cybersecurity, and cloud services, has taken a significant step in enhancing the public sector’s technological capabilities. ODP has entered into a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, formalized at the Geographic Information Systems Day Forum. The agreement marks the start of a transformative project aimed at modernising the Ministry’s IT infrastructure.
The project, led by ODP, will include a comprehensive cloud transformation for the Ministry, the establishment of a Disaster Recovery Centre, and the implementation of advanced cybersecurity measures. These enhancements are designed to streamline operations, improve service delivery, and ensure the Ministry’s IT systems remain resilient in the face of future challenges.
Eng. Maqbool Al Wahaibi, Chief Executive Officer of ODP, highlighted the transformative potential of technology in reshaping public services and aligning with Oman’s national priorities. He expressed pride in enabling projects that elevate key government entities, saying, “By leveraging next-generation cloud solutions and fostering resilience, we are empowering the Ministry to operate with greater agility and effectiveness in a rapidly evolving landscape.”
Al Wahaibi further emphasized that the impact of this transformation extends beyond the Ministry, helping drive economic growth, fostering innovation, and contributing to Oman’s sustainability agenda. ODP’s solutions are designed to enhance the nation’s long-term progress while strengthening its capacity to embrace technological advancements.
Dr. Moaman Mohd Al Busaidi, Minister’s Advisor for Future Cities at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, spoke about the significance of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration is a significant step in advancing digitalisation within the public sector. It secures our systems and paves the way for future innovations that will enhance our ability to serve the public and contribute to national development.”
ODP’s role includes migrating all workloads from the Ministry and its regional directorates to a secure, scalable cloud environment. This will help create a unified, high-performance digital ecosystem, leading to greater operational efficiency and innovative services. The project is aligned with Oman’s broader digitalisation objectives, including the digitisation of Sultan Haitham City.
A key component of the project is the implementation of a state-of-the-art Disaster Recovery Centre, which will ensure the Ministry’s essential applications remain available even in the event of unforeseen disruptions. This proactive measure will safeguard continuity and enhance the Ministry’s ability to maintain seamless operations.
Another crucial aspect of the transformation is the deployment of advanced cybersecurity measures. ODP is strengthening the Ministry’s security framework to protect sensitive data and ensure the integrity of its applications. These measures underscore ODP’s commitment to providing a secure digital environment, which is essential to Oman’s digital transformation journey.
ODP remains dedicated to delivering forward-thinking solutions that meet the evolving needs of the market. With its deep expertise and commitment to impactful collaborations, ODP continues to support Oman’s journey toward becoming a dynamic and technologically advanced nation.
