Ericsson has successfully designed and deployed an ATmosphere EXplosible (ATEX) Zone 1-certified solution for Ooredoo Qatar’s enterprise customers, marking a significant achievement in the offshore industry. The solution, an ATEX-certified Ericsson Enclosure 6129, is designed to operate conventional Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment in harsh and hazardous offshore environments.
The enclosure creates a safe operating environment for both the RAN equipment and the direct current (DC) power system, ensuring compliance with strict safety standards required in the offshore industry. It also guarantees reliable network performance and connectivity for Ooredoo Qatar’s enterprise customers, supporting superior 4G network quality in both indoor and outdoor locations around offshore rigs. Additionally, the solution can be adapted for other industries requiring ATEX-certified equipment for challenging environments.
Hicham Siblini, Chief Technology & Infrastructure Officer at Ooredoo Qatar, expressed satisfaction with the innovative ATEX Zone 1-certified enclosure. He stated, “This solution ensures compliance with safety measures while delivering exceptional network performance in offshore environments. It aligns with our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for specialized industries, ensuring the best network experience for our customers.”
Charbel Abdallah, President of Ericsson Qatar, emphasized the importance of the partnership, saying, “We are proud to collaborate with Ooredoo Qatar to deploy this first-of-its-kind solution, ensuring a safe and reliable environment for RAN equipment in the offshore industry. This deployment reflects our dedication to delivering high-performance network solutions that address specific challenges and drive digital transformation.”
