Nepal Telecom (NTC), the state-backed telecom company, has been rapidly expanding its Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in Madhesh Province to offer enhanced communication services to its customers. For the fiscal year 2081/82, NTC has set clear goals to advance its fiber expansion efforts.
The company plans to install 106 Fiber Distribution Cabinets (FDC), providing 30,000 home pass lines. Of the 106 FDC units, 30 will have a capacity of 512 lines, while 76 will support 256 lines. The aim is to provide FTTH service to 7,226 customers, with the same number of customer premises equipment (CPE) units. These efforts are led by the company’s Provincial Directorate in Birgunj.
The demand for fiber internet is growing as more businesses and individuals sign up for the service. According to the latest data from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), there are over 2.8 million unique fiber internet users in the country, reflecting the success of NTC and private internet service providers in expanding their networks.
As of the end of Kartik in FY 2081/82, NTC installed 20 FDCs, connecting 6,892 homes. The company plans to install 30 more FDCs from Mangsir to Magh, with 18 installations through Sealed Quotation (SQ) and 12 handled by the offices. The installation of these networks is already underway.
In addition to the FDCs, NTC has distributed 982 CPE devices as of Kartik. The Birgunj Directorate aims to extend FTTH coverage to all municipalities in Madhesh Province.
As the largest telecom enterprise in Nepal, Nepal Telecom continues to expand its coverage. To date, it has achieved 4G service coverage in 98% of local levels and is on track to provide nationwide coverage for its fiber internet network.
