On January 6, 2025, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT) held a key meeting to review the progress of Starlink’s licensing and regulatory frameworks for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. The meeting, chaired by Minister of State Shaza Fatima Khawaja, focused on expediting the process to ensure a robust regulatory framework for LEO satellites, aimed at improving connectivity and fostering technological innovation in Pakistan.
The Minister emphasized the importance of aligning Pakistan’s policies with global standards to fully harness the potential of satellite technology for national growth. The MoITT is set to hire a consultant within the next few weeks to assist with the development of these regulations, specifically for enabling Starlink internet access in Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Zarrar Hashim Khan (Secretary IT), Azfar Manzoor (Special Secretary), Amer Sarfaraz Ahmed (Chairman, Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board), Muhammad Yousuf Khan (Chairman, SUPARCO), Maj. Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman (Chairman, PTA), and Jehanzeb Rahim (Member, Telecom, MoITT).
