MTN, China Telecom, and Huawei have signed an agreement to deploy a cutting-edge 5G private network for a leading manganese mining company in South Africa’s Northern Cape. The network will offer high-speed, ultra-reliable connectivity for applications such as personnel surveillance, vehicle tracking, and unmanned trucks, improving efficiency and safety in the workplace.
The 5G network will also optimize energy consumption and resource management, aligning with global environmental standards and positioning the mine as a leader in sustainable mining. Huawei has provided the end-to-end 5G solution, while MTN contributed its expertise in network integration, and China Telecom brought advanced system integration and digital solutions.
This collaboration highlights the potential of 5G to transform industries, starting with mining, and signals a broader push by MTN to expand 5G private networks across various sectors, including oil and gas, ports, and manufacturing. The partnership also contributes to the growth of the 5G-to-Business ecosystem in Africa.
