Orange Jordan and SoftAtHome Unveil World’s First Fully prpl-Based Broadband Solution

Orange Jordan, in collaboration with independent software provider SoftAtHome, has announced the upcoming launch of the world’s first fully prpl-based broadband solution. This new system features a home gateway and Wi-Fi repeater, both powered by prplWare, and supplemented by SoftAtHome’s complementary products.

The prplWare, which includes prplOS and prplMesh, powers the home gateway and Wi-Fi repeater. For those unfamiliar with prpl, the prpl Foundation is a global community of service providers, OEMs, silicon vendors, independent software vendors, and open-source developers committed to using open-source software and open APIs to develop standardized, carrier-grade customer premises equipment.

The prplOS working group is creating an open-source, enterprise-grade software framework to support the next generation of Wi-Fi routers and gateways. Additionally, prplMesh is an open-source, carrier-grade, and certifiable implementation of the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Multi-AP EasyMesh specification.

SoftAtHome, a leading software provider for the digital home, has already deployed its products in over 30 million home networks and millions of mobile devices. The company, with over 300 employees, primarily software engineers, continues to drive innovation and actively contributes to open-source communities such as prpl.

For Orange Jordan, SoftAtHome’s prpl extension enhances the longevity of their devices and grants operators greater flexibility, enabling them to offer new and innovative services without being constrained by hardware limitations.

The deployment of this solution brings five key benefits promoted by the prpl Foundation: increased velocity by simplifying the gateway stack integration across platforms; service-driven innovation that allows for proprietary differentiation; API harmonization to scale business operations; open-source testing to reduce duplication and inefficiency; and the development of a strong collaborative community.

The new gateway from Orange Jordan offers fibre connectivity and supports Wi-Fi 6E. For this project, prplWare was enhanced with critical operator features, such as VoIP, Wi-Fi repeater, and API migration, all while ensuring compatibility with the existing infrastructure.

Through prplMesh, SoftAtHome adds smart Wi-Fi features like Wi-Fi repeater management, packet prioritization, intelligent channel selection, remote device management, and enhanced security via SoftAtHome’s WifiON product running atop prplWare.

Orange Jordan is the first operator within the Orange Group to deploy this prpl-based home gateway solution, marking a significant milestone in the group’s investment in open-source solutions from prpl.
