The federal cabinet of Pakistan has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team and China’s National Computer Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center. This collaboration aims to strengthen cybersecurity efforts through research, training, consultation, and joint initiatives to prevent cyberattacks.
The MoU will focus on promoting cooperation in various areas, including policy development, cybersecurity drills, intelligence exchange, and improving overall capacity. Both nations will work together to enhance cybersecurity awareness and resilience, addressing emerging digital threats. This agreement is a significant step toward bolstering bilateral relations in the tech space.
Additionally, the cabinet approved an agreement between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom and the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to establish an IT Accelerator Center at Pakistan’s National Incubation Center in Islamabad. This initiative will focus on boosting the tech ecosystem in the country by enhancing the center’s capacity.
The cabinet also approved several key appointments, including Syed Jarrar Haider Kazmi as the Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and Engineer Syed Musarrat Hussain as the CEO of Pakistan Real Estate Investment and Management Company. Furthermore, an extension for Commodore (Aps) Rizwan Ali Munawar’s position as Commandant of Pakistan Marine Academy was also ratified.
During the cabinet meeting, the prime minister highlighted the importance of peace and security for the nation’s development, acknowledging the sacrifices made by law enforcement and armed forces personnel, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where terrorism has seen an uptick.
