Oman’s telecommunications sector reported strong growth in 2024, with revenues reaching RO 920 million ($2.4 billion), up 4% from the previous year. The surge in Internet of Things (IoT) subscriptions, fiber broadband access, and increased public and private investments were key drivers. IoT subscriptions alone rose by 72%, reaching 1.1 million.
Mobile subscriptions grew by 7% to 7.5 million, while fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 2% to 573,000. The sector’s expansion aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040 goals for a digital-driven economy. Significant infrastructure rollouts included 5,856 fiber-optic links and increased fiber coverage in residential areas, now at 90%.
Oman’s telecom sector also focused on improving mobile data speeds, ranking among the top 28 countries globally for mobile data performance. The launch of a central number portability system and caller ID authentication further boosted consumer mobility and security. With a growing number of SMEs and rising employment in the sector, Oman’s telecom industry is poised to contribute significantly to the nation’s economic development and digital transformation.
