Morocco invests $3.9 million to digitize handicrafts sector

Morocco will allocate 36 million dirhams ($3.9 million) to accelerate the digital transformation of its handicrafts sector under agreements signed between the State Secretariat for Handicrafts, the Chambers of Handicrafts and their Federation, and the Digital Development Agency. Additional agreements were concluded to support international promotion and institutional development.

The plan introduces a professional artisan ID card and a National Artisan Registry, alongside the digitalization of services provided by the Chambers and affiliated bodies. Authorities say the reforms will streamline administrative procedures, improve efficiency, and build core digital infrastructure for the sector.

A key pillar of Morocco’s economy, handicrafts employ 22% of the national workforce and contribute 7% to GDP. With exports up 7.6% and sales generating 10% of tourism foreign exchange earnings, the digital initiative aims to formalize activities, boost productivity, and expand artisans’ access to local and global markets.
