AI could displace over 1.3 million jobs in Morocco by 2030, report warns

Artificial intelligence could displace more than 1.3 million jobs in Morocco by 2030, according to a new report highlighting the potential impact of automation on the country’s workforce.

The findings point to significant disruption across sectors where routine and repetitive tasks are prevalent, including manufacturing, administrative roles, and certain service industries. As AI adoption accelerates, many existing job functions are expected to be automated, reshaping labour demand.

At the same time, the report emphasises that AI will also create new opportunities, particularly in technology, data analysis, and digital services. However, the transition will require substantial investment in reskilling and workforce development to ensure that displaced workers can adapt to emerging roles.

Morocco has been actively advancing its digital transformation agenda, with increasing focus on artificial intelligence, infrastructure development, and innovation ecosystems. While these efforts support economic growth, they also bring structural changes to the labour market.

The challenge for policymakers will be to balance technological progress with inclusive economic outcomes, ensuring that workforce transitions are managed effectively.

Editor’s Note:
AI-driven disruption is becoming a structural challenge for emerging markets. Morocco’s outlook highlights the urgency of reskilling strategies to balance automation with sustainable employment growth.
