Grameenphone has awarded a multi-year leasing extension agreement to tower company Edotco Bangladesh, aimed at supporting the operator’s network expansion efforts. The deal is set to enhance Grameenphone’s network capabilities and contribute to Bangladesh’s goal of becoming a digitally empowered nation.
In a joint statement, Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman highlighted that the renewed partnership will strengthen the operator’s infrastructure while advancing the country’s digital transformation. Sunil Issac, Country Managing Director of Edotco Bangladesh, emphasized that the extension will help continue building the infrastructure necessary to support 4G network expansion, providing digital access to even remote and underserved areas.
While the specifics of the deal, including its length and financial terms, were not disclosed, it is clear that the collaboration will help expand mobile coverage across the country. Edotco currently operates approximately 12,300 towers and managed sites in Bangladesh, consisting of both its own towers and those managed for other mobile operators.
According to GSMA Intelligence data, Grameenphone, which is owned by Telenor, is the largest mobile operator in Bangladesh by subscribers, with 84.6 million subscribers as of September.
