Space42, an AI-driven space technology company formed by the 2024 merger of Bayanat and Yahsat, has secured a USD 5.1 billion (AED 18.7 billion) contract with the UAE government to extend its critical communication services for 17 years beyond 2026. This partnership includes the launch of two new satellites, Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5, set for 2027 and 2028, supported by AED 3.7 billion in advanced payments.
The contract will see Space42 enhancing services by expanding secure government communications across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia using its existing Al Yah 1 and Al Yah 2 satellites. The new satellites will play a vital role in improving communication capabilities, particularly for government use in various regions. The total development cost for the Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5 program is projected at AED 3.9 billion.
As a key player in space technology, Space42 focuses on providing essential services for communication, navigation, and environmental monitoring. Satellite technology is critical for global connectivity through internet services, disaster tracking, and improving GPS systems for sectors like transportation and defense.
Following the merger of Bayanat, known for its expertise in geospatial intelligence, and Yahsat, a satellite operator with multi-mission satellite services, Space42 aims to solidify its position in secure communications for government applications. The company currently has a backlog of AED 26 billion in contracted revenues, equivalent to 10 times its total revenue for the past year.
Space42’s advancements in space technology also contribute to innovation in AI, robotics, and foster international collaboration, playing an essential role in national security, scientific exploration, and sustainable development.
