SOHAR Port and Freezone, a prominent deep-sea port and adjacent free zone in the Middle East, has officially launched its new Port Management Information System, “Marasi.” The launch event was held under the patronage of Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al-Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport.
The Marasi system is designed to enhance collaboration among stakeholders, optimize port operations, and streamline data exchange. Already deployed in over 50 ports worldwide, Marasi is set to strengthen Oman’s logistics and trade sectors.
The system boasts a user-friendly web interface that simplifies communication between various port stakeholders, including marine service providers, terminals, and shipping agents. A standout feature of Marasi is its mobile application for marine pilots, which allows for secure electronic recording and access to vessel data, reducing manual processes and improving data accuracy.
Shipping agents also benefit from Marasi’s real-time communication capabilities, automated operational notifications, and seamless submission of Environmental Ship Index (ESI) data, which collectively boost operational efficiency.
Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of SOHAR Port, emphasized that the launch of Marasi marks a significant milestone in the port’s digital transformation. “This system not only improves operational efficiency and resource management but also fosters collaboration across the maritime community,” he said.
Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, Marasi integrates innovation to drive economic diversification, enhance global competitiveness, and support sustainable growth.
Marasi also aims to improve decision-making by providing reliable, real-time data and integrating with both internal and external systems through APIs. The system supports digital signatures for marine certifications and facilitates streamlined incident reporting. Additionally, a feedback mechanism is embedded within the system to promote continuous improvement. Transparency is further enhanced by allowing public access to vessel schedules and operational updates through a bulletin board, which does not require login credentials.
SOHAR Port continues to leverage digital solutions for operational excellence and sustainable growth, reinforcing its position as a major player in the global logistics industry. The port is one of the fastest-growing in the world and serves as a vital gateway for imports and exports in Oman, contributing 2.1% to the country’s GDP and generating nearly 36,000 jobs.
The port is helping to modernize Oman’s logistics infrastructure and aligns with the country’s long-term economic objectives under Oman Vision 2040, with a strong commitment to technology adoption and sustainable development.
