Orange Middle East and Africa (MEA) Business Group has expressed strong admiration for telebirr, Ethiopia’s flagship mobile money service, and its innovative approach to advancing the digital ecosystem. The group commended its potential to become a leading example of digital innovation across Africa.
A high-level delegation, led by Brelotte Ba, Deputy CEO of Orange MEA, recently visited Ethio telecom to explore the development of telebirr and Ethiopia’s ongoing digital transformation. During the visit, Ethio telecom’s CEO, Frehiwot Tamru, provided an overview of the company’s agile reform journey and its digital transformation strategy.
Frehiwot highlighted Ethio telecom’s commitment to offering more than just connectivity, focusing on delivering digital solutions that empower individuals, businesses, and government institutions. This approach is accelerating Ethiopia’s digital and financial transformation, she emphasized. Additionally, she discussed the potential for 5G investments to enhance various sectors, including tourism, healthcare, education, agriculture, transport, and mining.
Telebirr, she noted, has made significant progress in reshaping Ethiopia’s digital and financial landscape by promoting both digital and financial inclusion. The mobile money service is a key component in advancing the country’s broader digital transformation.
The delegation also visited Ethio telecom’s Experience Center, where they were briefed on cutting-edge technologies related to smart agriculture, education, healthcare, mining, and smart tourism. The visit highlighted how these solutions contribute to building a robust digital economy in Ethiopia.
