LINX Upgrades 100G Capacity in Jeddah to Meet Growing Demand

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has completed a significant 100G capacity upgrade in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to address increasing customer demands. Jeddah, one of the primary landing stations for subsea cables in the Middle East, serves as a key internet exchange point (IXP) for center3 in the region.

The upgrade aims to provide enhanced network connectivity with lower latency, improved security, and increased redundancy. With regular traffic in Saudi Arabia peaking at over 650 gigabits per second (Gbps), local IXPs must be equipped to handle traffic spikes, often driven by events such as sporting competitions or gaming updates.

The Jeddah IXP also serves as a central meeting point for carriers, cloud providers, content providers, and enterprise networks within the MG1 (MENA Gateway) data centre, where they can peer their network traffic locally. Halil Kama, LINX’s regional director for the Middle East, expressed excitement about the additional 16 x 100G port capability, emphasizing Jeddah’s growing importance as a digital gateway in the region.
