Egypt has emerged as the leading African country in fixed internet speed, a significant achievement attributed to the government’s ongoing digital transformation and infrastructure development, according to Abdel Wahab Ghoneim, Vice Chairman of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy. This milestone highlights Egypt’s growing role as a digital leader on the continent.
Ghoneim emphasized the global impact of digitalisation, noting that the worldwide digital economy has now reached a value of $55 trillion. Egypt’s rapid digital expansion has significantly improved internet connectivity, positioning the country as a frontrunner in Africa’s technological landscape.
In addition to enhancing internet infrastructure, Egypt is witnessing substantial growth in outsourcing and digital service exports, attracting around 55 digital service companies. This development aligns with the global trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, reshaping industries across the world. Egypt is also investing in human capital development, training 200,000 young professionals in AI and digital technologies, ensuring a future-ready workforce.
The country’s digital transformation is further supported by its commitment to equipping its workforce with the skills necessary to enhance economic competitiveness, ensuring that Egypt remains at the forefront of technological progress in Africa and beyond.
