The UAE authorities are set to deploy advanced digital technology to detect counterfeit products and combat fraud, as part of a broader initiative to enhance market integrity. The measures, announced during a forum organized by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, will focus on strengthening cross-border cooperation and utilizing AI-driven enforcement mechanisms to tackle evolving global trade threats.
Key recommendations from the forum include tightening administrative sanctions on commercial fraud violators, establishing advanced quality control centers for product authenticity, expanding the use of digital solutions for real-time supply chain monitoring, and increasing public awareness to help consumers identify counterfeit goods.
Discussions also highlighted key national legislation, such as Federal Decree-Law No. (42) of 2023 on Combating Commercial Fraud and Federal Law No. (15) of 2020 on Consumer Protection. These laws aim to promote sustainable development, ensure fair market practices, and protect consumer rights.
The forum addressed various forms of commercial fraud, including product identity fraud (altering product nature, composition, or source), quantity fraud (manipulating weight, volume, or size), and fraud related to counterfeit goods intended for sale or display. The efforts aim to safeguard the national economy, consumer health, safety, and intellectual property rights.
