Lobna Helal Appointed as Chair of Telecom Egypt, First Woman to Lead the Board

Telecom Egypt has appointed Lobna Helal as the new chair of its board, succeeding Dr. Magued Osman, who stepped down after serving as chair for nine years. Helal becomes the first woman to lead Telecom Egypt’s board, marking a historic milestone for the company.

Helal brings over 30 years of experience in the banking sector, having previously served as the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), focusing on monetary stability policies. In addition to her new role at Telecom Egypt, she holds board positions at several financial and development institutions, including the National Bank of Egypt and Egypt’s Sovereign Wealth Fund.

In a statement, Helal expressed her gratitude to the Telecom Egypt board for entrusting her with the role. “It is a profound honour to serve as the first woman to chair the board,” she said. She emphasized her commitment to maintaining high standards of corporate governance, strategic oversight, and sustainable growth. Helal also acknowledged Dr. Osman’s exceptional leadership and contributions, stating that his legacy had established a strong foundation for the company’s future growth.

In addition to Helal’s appointment, the Telecom Egypt board also reappointed Mohamed Nasr as managing director and CEO for a second term, with both leadership changes taking effect immediately.

Nasr expressed his appreciation for the board’s continued trust and outlined his commitment to driving sustainable growth and innovation at Telecom Egypt. He expressed enthusiasm about working under Helal’s leadership to further solidify the company’s position as a regional data hub and lead digital transformation efforts in Egypt and the region.
