BD Launches AI-Powered HemoSphere Alta for Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring

BD has unveiled its new hemodynamic monitoring platform, HemoSphere Alta, powered by predictive AI algorithms to enhance clinical decision-making. The technology helps clinicians proactively address blood pressure instability and optimize blood flow during medical procedures, potentially avoiding life-threatening situations.

HemoSphere Alta, developed by BD following its acquisition of Edwards’ Critical Care business, is now the most advanced hemodynamic monitoring system available. It is also the first product launched from BD’s Advanced Patient Monitoring business.

A standout feature of HemoSphere Alta is the cerebral autoregulation index (CAI), a groundbreaking parameter that assesses whether the brain will maintain stable blood flow despite fluctuations in blood pressure. CAI is accessed noninvasively via the ForeSight IQ sensor placed on the patient’s forehead, paired with the Acumen IQ sensor attached to the patient’s arterial line. The system also includes acumen hypotension prediction index software, which forecasts potential low blood pressure events.

The device also boasts an improved design, featuring a high-resolution, customizable touchscreen display, voice and gesture command options for hands-free interaction, and the ability to streamline workflows for clinicians.

“HemoSphere Alta is a major step forward in our connected care innovations, providing enhanced AI-driven insights and clinical decision support to help clinicians deliver improved patient care,” said Tim Patz, president of BD Advanced Patient Monitoring.
