Nokia Drives Network Automation and Simplification in Partnership with Vodafone Qatar

Global network technology leader Nokia is at the forefront of advancing network automation and simplification for operators like Vodafone Qatar, aiming to enable autonomous networks that enhance reliability and reduce complexity.

Raghav Sahgal, President of Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, emphasized that operators worldwide are heavily investing in automation to streamline network management and prepare for future generations beyond 5G. “The ultimate goal of autonomous networks is end-to-end automation,” he said in an exclusive interview with Gulf Times.

Sahgal highlighted that automation is essential for managing the increasing complexity and vast data generated by modern networks. “Cloud brings automation, and as networks become more complex, automation has become a key focus,” he explained. While human involvement remains important, the volume of data necessitates more automated processes, complemented by AI and enhanced security measures to create an autonomous network fabric requiring less manual intervention.

He acknowledged challenges in transitioning to autonomous networks, particularly the need to ensure all stakeholders fully understand the automated tasks being implemented. Responsible adoption of AI and automation tools is critical to building trust in these new capabilities. Sahgal reassured that current technologies are mature and continually evolving to support this transition, balancing automation with human augmentation.

Nokia’s collaboration with Vodafone Qatar reflects this strategic approach. Sahgal praised Vodafone Qatar’s vision, stating, “Scaling 5G requires these necessary steps to overcome modern network challenges and manage them effectively.” He emphasized that human expertise will always be vital but must be supported by automation and AI tools to handle network complexity and vast data flows.

Beyond mobile networks, Nokia offers comprehensive end-to-end solutions. “For Nokia, 5G is not just about mobility; it’s about providing the full suite of technologies required for modern network demands,” Sahgal said.

A key part of Nokia’s modernization strategy is its digital operations software, focusing on AI-driven network assurance and 5G slicing automation. Sahgal explained, “In the 5G era, delivering deterministic performance—guaranteed bandwidth without fluctuations—is paramount. This allows tailored network slices to enterprises or consumers with assured quality and performance.”

Through these innovations, Nokia is helping operators like Vodafone Qatar build the autonomous, reliable, and efficient networks needed for the future digital landscape.
