During a visit to Khost province, Afghanistan’s Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Mawlawi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, pledged to build 46 new telecommunication sites to address ongoing connectivity challenges. The announcement came during a meeting with Khost Governor Mawlawi Abdul Qayum Ruhani and other local officials.
Governor Ruhani acknowledged recent improvements in telecom infrastructure but highlighted that remote areas still face unreliable service. Joined by provincial leaders and residents, he emphasized the urgent need for additional telecommunication antennas in underserved districts to ensure equitable access.
In response, Minister Haqqani approved the construction of 46 new sites and ordered relevant authorities to fast-track their installation. He also committed to accelerating internet services and expanding support, stating the project will “resolve the majority of Khost’s telecommunication challenges” and bridge the connectivity gap between urban and remote communities.
This move builds on the previous phase of the TDF Project, which saw 11 towers approved for Khost’s disconnected regions. With the addition of these new sites, the province will have a total of 57 telecommunication towers, representing a significant step toward universal connectivity in Khost.
