Saudi Arabia Provides Free High-Speed Internet and AI-Powered Crowd Management for Hajj Pilgrims

Dubai – Saudi Arabia is offering free, high-speed internet access to every pilgrim performing Hajj this year, making the spiritual journey one of the most digitally connected gatherings globally. Over 10,500 WiFi access points have been deployed across Mecca, Medina, and key holy sites, ensuring seamless connectivity without the need to search for WiFi.

Saad Al Shanbari, spokesperson for the Hajj Communications and Technology System, emphasized the initiative’s goal to enhance pilgrims’ spiritual and logistical experiences through ubiquitous internet access. Complementing the WiFi rollout, the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has achieved full 4G and 5G network coverage across Mecca, Medina, Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.

The infrastructure is designed to support high data volumes while maintaining reliable connectivity for pilgrims and operational staff. Additionally, CST partnered with Aramco Digital to launch an AI-driven crowd management system. This system uses advanced surveillance cameras and specialized communication networks to monitor crowd flow and safety in real time.

Al Shanbari noted that over 4,000 telecom personnel have been mobilized to support pilgrims throughout the Hajj season, ensuring smooth connectivity and safety.
