Orange Egypt Officially Launches 5G Services Following $80M Loan for Licence

Orange Egypt has officially launched its 5G services after securing an $80 million loan to cover the cost of its 5G licence. The rollout will initially target high-traffic areas with strong demand for faster upload and download speeds, before expanding nationwide in later phases.

The deployment is being carried out in collaboration with Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to ensure compliance with international quality standards. The move comes as Egypt faces increasing demand for high-speed internet to support digital learning, remote work, streaming, HD video calling, and the development of Smart Cities dependent on 5G connectivity.

Dr. Ayman Amiri, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Orange Egypt, highlighted that 5G technology will improve lives and fuel growth in critical sectors relying on advanced digital infrastructure. Orange Egypt’s ongoing network investments aim to position the country as a regional leader in advanced technology.

Orange Egypt was granted a 15-year licence for 5G services in October 2024, following a preliminary agreement earlier that year.
