Alibaba Cloud has announced the launch of its third data centre in Malaysia and plans to open a second data centre in the Philippines by October 2025, responding to growing demand for cloud and AI services in Southeast Asia. These expansions build on recent infrastructure investments in Thailand, Mexico, and South Korea made during the first half of 2025, reinforcing Alibaba Cloud’s global network.
Originally entering Malaysia in 2017 as the first global public cloud provider to host infrastructure in the country, Alibaba continues to deepen its footprint in the region. Additionally, the company launched an AI Global Competency Centre (AIGCC) in Singapore, offering businesses and developers access to advanced AI models and computing power.
Alibaba Cloud’s global expansion is part of a planned US$52.7 billion capital expenditure to develop a unified global cloud network. However, the company has strategically exited data centres in Australia and India in 2024, focusing its efforts on key growth markets.
