Algiers, Algeria – In a significant advancement for Algeria’s digital transformation and public service modernization, Sonelgaz Distribution, a subsidiary of the national electricity and gas group Sonelgaz, signed a framework agreement with Algérie Poste to allow secure online payment of electricity and gas bills through the BaridiMob mobile application. The agreement, finalized on July 14 at Sonelgaz headquarters, aims to enhance citizen access to digital financial services and modernize Algeria’s administrative processes.
The signing ceremony was overseen by Minister of State for Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies Mohamed Arkab and Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki, alongside senior executives including Sonelgaz CEO Mourad Adjal and the acting Director General of Algérie Poste.
This partnership integrates Sonelgaz clients holding the Edahabia card into BaridiMob, enabling them to pay utility bills online securely without visiting commercial agencies. This initiative aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directive to institutionalize digitalization across public services, focusing on efficiency, transparency, and citizen-centered administration.
The joint communiqué highlighted the partnership as a pivotal step toward Algeria’s e-governance evolution, emphasizing user-centric services, financial inclusion, and operational modernization.
Minister Arkab described the collaboration as a “model of successful institutional complementarity between the energy and postal sectors,” underscoring the ministry’s dedication to expanding digital solutions and reinforcing public trust through citizen-focused reforms. Minister Zerrouki praised the democratization of digital transactions through BaridiMob, calling digital transformation of daily services a vital pillar of equitable development and access for all Algerians.
