Leading UAE telecom operator e& has announced the deployment of the region’s first Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU, an advanced radio unit from Huawei, on its live 5G network. This cutting-edge technology enhances 5G performance while reducing energy consumption and equipment requirements, delivering a more sustainable experience for customers across the UAE.
The Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU integrates two frequency bands (2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz) into a single unit, cutting hardware needs and lowering power consumption by 35%. Additional smart energy-saving features, such as symbol-level sleep, further reduce energy use by 15% during low traffic periods.
Abdulrahman Al Humaidan, Senior Vice President of Access Network Development at e& UAE, described the deployment as a breakthrough in compact, high-performance network technology and a significant step towards the company’s net-zero goal by 2030 and future 5G-Advanced networks. By merging two critical 5G bands, e& has halved the equipment footprint at mobile sites while boosting coverage, speed, and energy efficiency.
The advanced antenna technology doubles capacity compared to traditional units, featuring 384 antenna elements instead of 192, significantly improving coverage, enhancing indoor signals, and increasing connectivity by 30–60% in high-traffic areas.
This integrated solution also reduces equipment footprint by 60% and cuts deployment time in half, enabling faster, more efficient 5G network rollouts. Al Humaidan emphasized that innovations like the Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU are key to building a more connected and energy-efficient future in the UAE and advancing 5G-Advanced connectivity.
The deployment underlines e& UAE’s dedication to creating smarter, greener 5G networks that meet customer demands and support the nation’s digital transformation.
