Ncell Foundation, ICOM Nepal, and Narayanhiti Palace Museum Launch ‘Sangrahalaya’ Journal to Promote Museum Culture

Ncell Foundation, ICOM Nepal, and the Narayanhiti Palace Museum have jointly launched Sangrahalaya (The Museum), a research-based journal exploring the principles of museums, global and local practices, and historical perspectives. The initiative, part of Ncell’s CSR efforts, underscores private sector engagement in preserving Nepal’s cultural heritage.

Unveiled by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badriprasad Pandey, the journal was praised as an exemplary public–private partnership. Minister Pandey highlighted the government’s ongoing work on museum policies and lauded Ncell for supporting cultural preservation.

Ncell’s Corporate Communications and Sustainability Director, Bishakha Laxmi Khadka, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safeguarding heritage, while UNESCO’s Jaco du Toit emphasised museums’ role in cultural promotion, education, and dialogue. ICOM Nepal Chairman Ramesh Prasad Dawadi stressed expanding the museum network and advancing preservation efforts.

Implemented under the year-long project Promoting Culture and Heritage through Museums, the initiative provides training for over 100 museum professionals across Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces, covering international standards and Nepal’s needs. The project also distributes resource booklets, produces a documentary on Nepal’s museum history, and works closely with government bodies.

Stakeholders note the journal’s alignment with Nepal’s cultural policies, local government mandates, and Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to strengthen museums as platforms for heritage, community engagement, and national pride.
