Robi Axiata PLC has introduced international roaming services in 70 countries, allowing Bangladeshi travellers to purchase roaming packs using their mobile balance in local currency. The service eliminates the need for foreign SIM cards or foreign currency payments via credit cards.
During a press briefing in Dhaka, Robi officials said the initiative includes nine packages tailored by data volume, call minutes, and duration. Customers can activate the packs via the My Robi or My Airtel apps, offering options such as cost-effective data bundles, combo deals, and Asia-specific packages.
The company has partnered with telecom operators abroad to ensure high-quality connectivity. According to Robi, the move will not only benefit customers but also contribute to increased government revenue by keeping transactions in local currency.
Robi also said it is working on broader initiatives to enable mobile balance use for various purposes, aiming to promote a cashless society. Bangladesh Bank officials lauded the project as a milestone in the country’s telecom sector.
